The administration of the Port of Bilbao is the competence of the Port Authority of Bilbao, an organization that is a member of the State Ports Public Organization, and whose functions are set out by Law.
The Port Authority plans and implements the infrastructure works needed for the carrying out of the activities related to maritime goods traffic and interchange between transport modes.
In like manner, it organises the uses of the Port’s service zones and manages port public domain through the granting of concessions and authorisations, applying profitability and efficiency criteria.
It fixes commercial services and collects prices offered to customers (Taxes and Tariffs) for the use of port facilities. The Port Authority can also decide whether it should participate in companies.
The Port Authority develops the plan for the General Regulations of Service and Port Police, among whose points figure supervision of admission, handling and storage of dangerous goods.
