The Bilbao Port Authority and Uniport, the multimodal logistics cluster of the Port of Bilbao, have once again taken part in one of the main events in the cereal industry: the National Meeting of Grain Traders (ENOC), held in Zaragoza.
The infrastructure and wide range of efficient and competitive logistics services that the Port of Bilbao has to offer for importers and exporters of agricultural commodities were promoted among the 500 or so people attending the 23rd edition of this meeting organised by ACCOE (Spanish Cereals and Oilseeds Trade Association).
The Port of Bilbao handles around three million tonnes of agri-food and agro-energy products annually. Soya beans account for 30% of this traffic, followed by oils and fats, animal feed and fodder and cereals and their flours. A significant number of companies within the port community provide a comprehensive range of multimodal logistics services for the agri-food and biofuel industry, including shipping and chartering agencies, port handling, storage and warehousing, road and rail transport and customs clearance and quality certifiers, amongst others. Companies providing services for this type of specialised freight terminals include Bergé Marítima, Bunge, Depósitos Portuarios – Deposa, Servicios Logísticos Portuarios (SLP) and Tepsa, as well as those offering certification and analysis services such as SGS.
The Port also has a Border Control Post, with 15 loading/unloading bays, authorised by the European Commission for sanitary, phytosanitary and commercial quality control of all types of agri-food products subject to foreign trade. The Port Authority is currently investing more than 500,000 euros to replace the refrigeration equipment in the cold storage rooms and loading bays.
