Port accessOn Friday, 13 March, the Bilbao Port Authority organised an information session for hauliers to familiarise them with the e-portua online platform and explain the benefits this tool offers in streamlining access through the system of advance notice of entry.
Advance notice enables the planning of traffic flows, helps avoid traffic congestion at certain times and enables terminal operators and port services to plan ahead. “It’s a free service we make available to hauliers that offers nothing but benefits. It helps improve arrival forecasting, optimises access management and contributes to smoother and more efficient operations for all parties involved,” representatives from the Port Authority explained.
The session, which ran from 09.30 to 10.30 in the auditorium at the Port Authority’s offices, took a practical approach, highlighting the benefits of the system and outlining the various ways in which advance notice could be submitted: via EDI file, web form and/or mobile app (Android / iOS). It also included a Q+A session.
“We’re talking of a key tool for moving towards a safer, more efficient and better-
coordinated port, benefiting both terminals and hauliers alike. It enables us to work more quickly, avoids waiting times and improves traffic flow, all of which saves companies money,” said the Port Authority.
