The Bilbao Port Authority has awarded a contract for 1,079,384 euros for the construction of a new building to house staff from the Vessel Operations Department, as well as temporary staff working in that area, thereby further modernising its operational infrastructure at the port. Work will begin before July and is scheduled for completion in April next year.
The new building is set to be constructed at the Muelle de Enlace, at the same site as the current facilities, and will provide a more functional and efficient workplace better suited to the current needs of the port service.
The plan is to build a unique structure by reusing and interconnecting 20 and 40-foot shipping containers, which will form both the external structure and the interior of the building, complemented by small adjoining structures. It will be fitted out to ensure the comfort and operational efficiency of staff, incorporating thermal and acoustic insulation, air conditioning, ventilation, hot and cold water supply, sanitation and water collection systems, fire protection, electricity and telecommunications, amongst other services.
