The Bilbao Port Authority and Puertos del Estado / The State Ports Authority have jointly organised and held the 13th Internal Legal Conference on the Port System of General Interest at the University of Deusto. The event brought together over 150 industry professionals, including a broad representation of presidents, directors and secretaries-general from the port sector, state attorneys and heads of legal and public domain departments, amongst other key figures.
The two-day conference, held on 27 and 28 April, was opened by Gustavo Santana Hernández, President of Puertos del Estado; Ivan Jimenez Aira, President of the Bilbao Port Authority; and José Ramón Intxaurbe Vitorica, Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Deusto. The programme, which focused on analysing regulatory developments, sharing criteria and discussing practical cases of inter-institutional coordination, included eight presentations by leading specialists, who addressed key issues for the legal management of the port system, including the case law of the Central Administrative Court for Contractual Appeals, the implications and uses of the port public domain, coordination between urban planning and port uses, and the application of state aid to the port system. The event was closed by David Vilas Álvarez, the State Attorney General.
The conference reaffirms the commitment of the Port Authorities and Puertos del Estado to technical training and legal coordination within the port system of general interest. The aim is to ensure consistent standards, to provide a solid legal framework for port management and to promote collaboration between public authorities and the legal profession.
