It was designed by Master civil engineer <strong>Evaristo de Churruca Brunet<\/strong>, and it solved the navigability problem in the Port of Bilbao. In turn, the development of port activity at Bilbao was favoured since vessels of great tonnage were able to sail with any tide.<\/p>\n<p>The Iron Dock has also presented important scientific, technical and economic values throughout its existence, as well as carrying out a significant social and cultural function as a place where local inhabitants can walk and gather.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Iron Dock at Portugalete<\/strong> forms part of <strong>Spain\u2019s National Heritage<\/strong> and is under the jurisdiction of the <strong>Port Authority of Bilbao<\/strong>.<\/div><div class=\"clear\"><\/div><\/p>\n <div class=\"hide-for-small page-options-container hide-for-print\"> <hr class=\"page-options\"\/> <ul class=\"inline right page-options\"><li><a class=\"bmprint\" rel=\"nofollow\" title=\"Print this article\"><i class=\"icon-print\"><\/i><\/a><\/li><li><a class=\"bmsend2friend\" href=\"mailto:?subject=Article of interest: Portugalete Iron Dock declared Spanish Heritage of Cultural Interest -
