Registration to attend this key event on the role of ports and port communities in sustainable development is now open at <a href=\"https:\/\/congresopuertosostenible.bilbaoport.eus\/2025\/en\/info\"><strong>congresopuertosostenible.bilbaoport.eus<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Due to be held in Bilbao and Getxo on 6 and 7 February, the conference will bring together representatives from government administration and public bodies, companies from the transport, logistics and port sectors, organisations from the energy, innovation, sustainability and circular economy sectors, academia and the general public. The event will be a forum for pooling knowledge and experiences to help draw up a common strategy for an economically, socially and environmentally sustainable future.<\/p>\n<p>In the course of the conference, experts in a wide range of issues related to sustainability will address different topics grouped into five main subject areas: <strong>Future Trends<\/strong>, to determine how competitive ports are to meet the challenge of balancing environmental and social sustainability with economic and financial stability; <strong>Environmental Transition<\/strong>, and the importance of properly assessing the potential impact of port activities on the environment and on human health, and thus be in a position to take measures to effectively mitigate that impact; <strong>Social Sustainability<\/strong>, looking at the positive impact of port activities on local communities and talent attraction; <strong>Economic Growth<\/strong>, focused on funding to improve the accessibility and sustainability of ports, sustainability regulations and the new costs derived from these policies; and <strong>Innovation<\/strong>, to create value and a competitive advantage through collaboration.<\/p>\n<p><\/div><div class=\"one_half column-last bbcol\"><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_51495\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51495\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a class=\"thickbox\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bilbaoport.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Foto-cabecera-web.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"thickbox wp-image-51495 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bilbaoport.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Foto-cabecera-web.jpg\" alt=\"Puerto de Bilbao\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bilbaoport.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Foto-cabecera-web.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.bilbaoport.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Foto-cabecera-web-535x357.jpg 535w, https:\/\/www.bilbaoport.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Foto-cabecera-web-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-51495\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Port of Bilbao<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Speakers at the II International Sustainable Port Conference will include <strong>Ricardo Barkala<\/strong>, President of the Bilbao Port Authority; <strong>Jos\u00e9 Ignacio Zudaire<\/strong>, President of the Bilbao Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Services and Navigation; <strong>Miguel Delibes<\/strong>, ad honorem Research Professor at the @CSIC and Full Member of the Spanish Royal Academy of Sciences; <strong>Eloy Revilla<\/strong>, Director of the Do\u00f1ana Biological Station &#8211; CSIC; and <strong>Peter de Langen<\/strong>, a lead consultant.
