{"id":47759,"date":"2023-06-28T09:42:11","date_gmt":"2023-06-28T07:42:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bilbaoport.eus\/?p=47759"},"modified":"2023-06-28T10:05:55","modified_gmt":"2023-06-28T08:05:55","slug":"two-routes-between-bilbao-and-the-united-kingdom-identified-as-green-shipping-corridors-for-the-decarbonisation-of-shipping","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bilbaoport.eus\/en\/news\/two-routes-between-bilbao-and-the-united-kingdom-identified-as-green-shipping-corridors-for-the-decarbonisation-of-shipping\/","title":{"rendered":"Two routes between Bilbao and the United Kingdom identified as green shipping corridors for the decarbonisation of shipping"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"show-for-small mobile-breadcrumbs\"><ul class=\"breadcrumbs\"><li class=\"home\"><span property=\"itemListElement\" typeof=\"ListItem\"><a property=\"item\" typeof=\"WebPage\" title=\"Go to Port of Bilbao.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bilbaoport.eus\/en\/\" class=\"home\" aria-current=\"page\"><span property=\"name\">Port of Bilbao<\/span><\/a><meta property=\"position\" content=\"1\"><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div><div class=\"one_half bbcol\">\n<p>The report \u2018Green shipping corridors in and out of Spain: assessing route-based opportunities\u2019, produced by the Global Maritime Forum in collaboration with the British Embassy in Madrid, has highlighted the strategic location and commitment to sustainability of the Port of Bilbao for the development of green shipping routes, thereby contributing to the objective of decarbonising shipping.<\/p>\n<p>More specifically, the report highlights the excellent connectivity between the Port of Bilbao and the United Kingdom, emphasising the potential of Short Sea Shipping routes for container traffic between Bilbao and Liverpool and for ro-ro traffic with the ports of the United Kingdom as key to the development of green shipping corridors that significantly contribute to the overall decarbonisation of global shipping, while still being comparatively feasible and within a reasonable timeframe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe development of green and digital shipping corridors is a priority for the Port of Bilbao, and fits in with the port&#8217;s growing portfolio of sustainability-related initiatives. The decarbonisation of routes such as those presented in the report will have a major impact due to the volume of goods and passengers they carry and the huge potential for a shift from road to sea.
