{"id":13266,"date":"2014-09-22T08:10:21","date_gmt":"2014-09-22T06:10:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bilbaoport.eus\/?p=13266"},"modified":"2016-06-13T12:16:21","modified_gmt":"2016-06-13T10:16:21","slug":"committee-environment-spatial-policy-basque-parliament-visits-port-bilbao","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bilbaoport.eus\/en\/news\/committee-environment-spatial-policy-basque-parliament-visits-port-bilbao\/","title":{"rendered":"The Committee for the Environment and Spatial Policy  of the Basque Parliament visits the Port of Bilbao"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"show-for-small mobile-breadcrumbs\"><ul class=\"breadcrumbs\"><li class=\"home\"><span property=\"itemListElement\" typeof=\"ListItem\"><a property=\"item\" typeof=\"WebPage\" title=\"Go to Port of Bilbao.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bilbaoport.eus\/en\/\" class=\"home\" aria-current=\"page\"><span property=\"name\">Port of Bilbao<\/span><\/a><meta property=\"position\" content=\"1\"><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div><p><em><strong>The Chairman of the Port Authority informed them about\u00a0the commercial and logistic challenges facing this port location of Bizkaia<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"one_half bbcol\">\n<p>A delegation of the Committee for the Environment and Spatial Policy of the Parliament of the Basque Autonomous Community visited the facilities the Port of Bilbao has in Santurtzi and Zierbena, and gained first-hand knowledge about the projects set up by the Port Authority of Bilbao to successfully meet new commercial and logistic challenges.<\/p>\n<p>The Chairman of the Port Authority Asier Atutxa provided the<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13986\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13986\" style=\"width: 305px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a class=\"thickbox\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bilbaoport.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/DOM09613.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-13986 size-medium\" title=\"Members of the delegation together with the Port\u2019s Chairman and Directors\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bilbaoport.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/DOM09613-305x203.jpg\" alt=\"Members of the delegation together with the Port\u2019s Chairman and Directors\" width=\"305\" height=\"203\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13986\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Members of the delegation together with the Port\u2019s Chairman and Directors<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><\/div><div class=\"one_half column-last bbcol\"><\/p>\n<p>delegation with details of the organisation\u2019s Strategic Plan\u00a02013-2017, which has established seven aims: to increase maritime traffic; to preserve and develop new infrastructure; to drive forward excellence and improve competitiveness in the rendering of services by introducing new telematic services; to promote a qualified, cohesive, motivated human team; to optimise the internal management systems in safety\/security, protection and the environment; to achieve greater bonding with the milieu; and to maintain the economic and financial sustainability of its projects.<\/p>\n<p>In his report, Atutxa highlighted the fact that insofar as the port is the thermometer of the economy, \u201cwe can say with moderate optimism that there has been a change in trend in the traffic since 2013, and that until June of this year there has been a 1.6% increase in the number of tonnes and an 8% increase in exports, while exports remain at a level similar to that of the first half of last year\u201d. The Chairman of the Port Authority also stressed that Bilbao is a flexible port committed to boosting the railway. In this respect, he asked the Parliament for their support in urging the Spanish Ministry of Development to make a serious commitment to the development of the southern freight railway link, a key project designed to boost traffic and improve the Port of Bilbao\u2019s competitiveness.<\/p>\n<p><\/div><div class=\"clear\"><\/div><\/p>\n <div class=\"hide-for-small page-options-container hide-for-print\"> <hr class=\"page-options\"\/> <ul class=\"inline right page-options\"><li><a class=\"bmprint\" rel=\"nofollow\" title=\"Print this article\"><i class=\"icon-print\"><\/i><\/a><\/li><li><a class=\"bmsend2friend\" href=\"mailto:?subject=Article of interest: The Committee for the Environment and Spatial Policy  of the Basque Parliament visits the Port of Bilbao -
