{"id":10934,"date":"2013-11-25T13:08:55","date_gmt":"2013-11-25T11:08:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bilbaoport.eus\/?p=10934"},"modified":"2014-09-18T10:04:06","modified_gmt":"2014-09-18T08:04:06","slug":"valparaiso-bilbao-sign-twinning-agreement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bilbaoport.eus\/en\/news\/valparaiso-bilbao-sign-twinning-agreement\/","title":{"rendered":"Valparaiso and Bilbao sign twinning agreement"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"show-for-small mobile-breadcrumbs\"><ul class=\"breadcrumbs\"><li class=\"home\"><span property=\"itemListElement\" typeof=\"ListItem\"><a property=\"item\" typeof=\"WebPage\" title=\"Go to Port of Bilbao.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bilbaoport.eus\/en\/\" class=\"home\" aria-current=\"page\"><span property=\"name\">Port of Bilbao<\/span><\/a><meta property=\"position\" content=\"1\"><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div><p>As part of the Bilbao Port Authority visit to Chile, the leading representatives of the Ports of Valparaiso and Bilbao respectively have signed an international twinning agreement.<\/p>\n<div class=\"one_half bbcol\">\n<p>This agreement, endorsed by the Chairman of the Valparaiso Port Company, Mr. Mikel Uriarte, and his Bilbao Port Authority counterpart, Mr. Asier Atutxa, in the presence of the Valparaiso Mayor, Mr. Jorge Castro, ratifies the existing links between both ports and enables a series of commercial, technical and cultural alliances to be projected in the coming years.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Thus, Valparaiso reinforces its international image and joins the ports of Osaka, Amsterdam, Geneva, Philadelphia, Shanghai and Aqaba, which are also twinned with Bilbao.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">According to Mikel Uriarte, this agreement will strengthen international interchange with Bilbao and he takes its example in the harmonious development of a port project that is compatible with both the city and its inhabitants. \u201cThey have been a city-port for 700 years and have built a port perfectly blended with the city.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/div><div class=\"one_half column-last bbcol\"><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10935\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10935\" style=\"width: 305px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a class=\"thickbox\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bilbaoport.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Firmaacuerdo1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-una_columna wp-image-10935\" title=\"Signature of the agreement\" alt=\"Signature of the agreement\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bilbaoport.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Firmaacuerdo1-305x202.jpg\" width=\"305\" height=\"202\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10935\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Signature of the agreement<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">They have been able to develop a metropolis in harmony with port life and to look towards the future \u2013 an experience they can pass on to us,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/div><div class=\"clear\"><\/div><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">For Asier Atutxa, \u201cthis twinning agreement is significant to us for two reasons: on the one hand there is the sentimental \u2013 the historic ties between Chile and the Basque Country; while on the other, we have trade. We are interested in continuing to generate synergy by increasing port traffic with Valparaiso and Chile. In the future, we will certainly work side by side to develop our two countries, which have a great future due to their enterprising, industrial spirits, which they have shown over recent years.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"one_half bbcol\">\n<p>Finally, the Mayor, Jorge Castro, emphasised the value of the agreement, recalling that the ties between Valparaiso and Bilbao have been permanent, giving as an example the fact that the fireworks used in the annual Bay of Valparaiso display are dispatched from the Port of Bilbao. For Castro, \u201cthe twinning will encourage us to continue\u00a0<span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">working together with the city. Without any doubt, Bilbao\u2019s example is very important: this blend of the best port spaces given up to the development of culture and the Arts, means that a strong commitment exists between the Port of Bilbao and its community.
