In recent years, in order to prevent the constant degradation of the marine environment, different international agreements have been negotiated thanks to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). The main objective of what is known as <strong>the MARPOL 73\/78 Agreement<\/strong>, in force at present, <strong>is to achieve the complete elimination of intentional marine environment pollution by hydrocarbons and other harmful substances, and to reduce the accidental discharging of such substances<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>This Agreement<\/strong>, ratified by the Spanish Government, <strong>obliges vessels<\/strong> berthing in Spanish State Ports <strong>to be supervised to ensure that they comply with the norms of the Agreement<\/strong> by setting out its scope and application, the prevention measures to be adopted by vessels in their waste management and the facilities the subscribing Spanish ports must be equipped with for the reception and treatment of this waste.<\/p>\n<div class=\"one_half bbcol\">\n<figure id=\"attachment_20243\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20243\" style=\"width: 305px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a class=\"thickbox\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bilbaoport.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/simulacro_residuos_1200.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-20243\" title=\"Mock fight against marine pollution\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bilbaoport.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/simulacro_residuos_1200-305x797.jpg\" alt=\"Mock fight against marine pollution\" width=\"305\" height=\"203\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bilbaoport.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/simulacro_residuos_1200-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.bilbaoport.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/simulacro_residuos_1200-535x355.jpg 535w, https:\/\/www.bilbaoport.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/simulacro_residuos_1200.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.bilbaoport.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/simulacro_residuos_1200-250x166.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 305px) 100vw, 305px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-20243\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mock fight against marine pollution<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><\/div><div class=\"one_half column-last bbcol\"><\/p>\n<p>The Port Authority of Bilbao, in compliance with the regulations in force under Royal Decree 128\/2022, of 15 February, on port reception facilities for ship\u2019s waste, guarantees the management of MARPOL waste through port reception facilities that meet the needs of vessels habitually using the port, and of those types of vessels which, while not habitually using the port, are involved in the most relevant traffic with the port.<\/p>\n<p><\/div><div class=\"clear\"><\/div><br \/>\n<div class=\"one_half bbcol\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>MARPOL 73\/78 Agreement<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Annex I.<\/span> &#8211;
